Notes: In the tradition of the greatest fandoms (meaning those with the greatest volume of fanfic, not counting Dragonball and it's various incarnations because romance does not seem to be a high priority with those fans) I would like to present a formulaic "Blanket Fic" (rather than one like Sakura's, which is actually better, but I felt like doing this anyway and my isn't this sentence long?). Actually, it's not really a common blanket-fic because they don't end up having sex (I'm sorry to all the disappointed fangirls especially fangirl #4 in issue 3, who says that Satoshi and Daisuke look good together, though I may be misinterpreting that ^^;;; ).

Yes, it's shounen ai. Because I can. Yes, you can archive it if you want, but tell me where it is.

Satoshi: Why....
Crysi: Though I personally agree with Meg-san about your DaiRik supporting in canon, fandom is my pretty little playground, hon, and you're about to get lucky, though not so lucky as in "What Dreams May Come".
Daisuke: What's the fandom opinion on how I would take finding out Hiwatari-kun loved me?
Crysi: You freak, often and well. Many times you faint.
Daisuke: Okay.

Anyhoo....

Oh yeah:

Daisuke's thoughts are in / /

Dark's thoughts are in // //

Satoshi's thoughts are in : :

Krad's thoughts are in :: ::

Ye Olde-Fashioned Blanket Fic

By Crysi, who waves to the yuri-loving goddess (loooong story)

It was cold.

Of course, considering that they were up in the mountains, trudging through snow that was waist-deep already through a blizzard that the term "white out" had been created to describe, that wasn't surprising. The wind howled like a ravenous wolf, and the sound cut as harshly as the cold. There was a slight break for a few precious seconds (meaning you could see five feet around you, instead of one inch). Satoshi reached back and tugged on the rope that connected him to Daisuke. One end was tied around his waist, the other around Daisuke.

Daisuke struggled through the snow and stumbled, falling against Satoshi's back. He smiled weakly at the other boy, then realized that he couldn't even see Satoshi's face at this range.

"….think….shelter….near….make it…?"

Daisuke frowned and said, "What?" Then he realized there was no way Satoshi could have heard him over the storm. "WHAT?" he yelled.

Daisuke blinked when Satoshi pulled him forward and put his mouth near Daisuke's ear. "I think I see a shelter. It's nearby, but can you make it through the snow?"

Daisuke nodded.

The two waded through the snow towards, well….in the general direction of the ramshackle cabin Satoshi had glimpsed. They found it when Daisuke walked face-first into one of the walls, and felt around until they found a door. Satoshi forced it open and the two tumbled inside and hurriedly shut the door behind them. Daisuke peered around the cabin. It was one small room, open to the beams that supported the roof. The wood was worn and aged by time and harsh winter snows, closer now to gray than a rich brown shade, but the place felt *sturdy * along with it's age. The windows were shuttered, closed tight against the cold. The room was bare of furniture save for an old sofa and a single blanket, which faced a cold, empty, stone fireplace. There was a small amount of firewood near the fireplace, *maybe* enough to last a night.

Satoshi and Daisuke brushed the snow off their clothes as best they could, and stripped off the wet outer layer of clothing. Daisuke fumbled with the knot of the rope that tied them together, but his hands were too cold to undo it. Satoshi didn't even try. The two moved over to the fireplace and started a fire with the matches Satoshi carried. Daisuke huddled near it, shivering.

"I wish we hadn't lost our packs," muttered Daisuke. "It was stupid to come up here in the first place."

Satoshi turned to Daisuke and frowned slightly. "I was going to say that I didn't think even *He* would try stealing the Kage no Kagi when a huge blizzard was predicted for here. I thought he was smarter than that."

//I *am* smarter than that. I *would* have gotten out before the blizzard if *someone* hadn't interfered.//

/*I* think it was Mom's fault. I'm sorry, but the middle of winter is *not* the time to schedule a job in the mountains./

Daisuke made a face. "He blames you for delaying him."

"He knew I would be there," Satoshi pointed out. "The key wasn't in your pack was it?"

//Tell him With has it.//

/Why? It's not like he's going to take it from *me*./

//Why wouldn't he?//

/A certain bet that nobody saw fit to tell me about./

//….I'm not sure this applies.//

/I think that…./

Satoshi watched Daisuke's face change expression as the boy argued with Dark. He shook his head.

::I bet they're talking about you.::

:Shut up and leave me alone.:

::I'm going to kill, well, both of them, but the redhead especially. Though, I have to say that if you were going to be a complete bastard and *fall* *in* *love* with someone else, he's a good choice.::

:Is that a twisted sort of compliment?:

::I suppose it is. You know, you could just let me out now….It would even save you the trouble of having to deal with a *murder*. Poor Niwa-kun just got separated from you in the storm, and he was never seen again, isn't it just horrible….::

:Leave him *alone*.:

::Not as long as he is who he is. I'd want to kill him anyway, you know. Your love for him just pushes it into wanting to slowly torture him to death. And being aware every second that you're watching, of course.::

:Shut UP.:

"I have it."

Satoshi blinked at Daisuke, confused. "What?"

Daisuke gave an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry, Dark started complaining *again*."

//Hey!//

"I have the Kage no Kagi," said Daisuke. He rubbed his arms. "It's still really cold…."

Satoshi grabbed the blanket off the couch and settled down next to Daisuke. He wrapped it around Daisuke and began to work on untying the knots in the rope, pulling it off Daisuke and himself. Satoshi settled next to the fire, noting that Daisuke was still shivering.

"Are you okay?" asked Satoshi.

Daisuke nodded. "I'll be fine." He frowned at Satoshi. "What about you? Aren't you cold?"

"It's not that bad…"

Daisuke clambered over to Satoshi. "It's really cold! You can't let yourself die just because you're worried about me."

//Daisuke, I really don't think that sharing your blanket with him will really be uhm, very good for *our* continued survival. Remember Krad?//

/I won't let him freeze if I have a blanket!/

Daisuke pulled the blanket around Satoshi and settled down next to him. "We can *share* the blanket."

"…."

:Don't you *dare* even try.:

::He's practically throwing himself at you.::

:He's just being nice.:

::He's *trying* to steal you from me, the little bastard!::

//Coming on a bit strong, aren't we Dai-chan?//

/I don't know what you mean./

//The "transformation barometer" skyrocketed when you sat next to him. And I *can* see some of your thoughts, you know.//

/….which ones?/

//You know, someday you'll have to learn when I'm just guessing.//

/…jerk./

//So, among all the *other* things you seem to have avoided telling me, what about Riku and Risa?//

/I like Risa. She's an okay person. Did you know that the student body president asked her out and she punched him?/

//Nooo…did he try the same thing with her that he tried with Riku?//

/I think so. All the girls avoid him now./

//What about Riku?//

/I love Riku, but….kissing her is like kissing my sister. I already talked to her about it. She took it better than I thought she would…./

//You don't have a…//

/Dark…./

//And you choose creepy boy because….//

/He's a good, nice person and he's always there. I can rely on him to always be there for me and support me. He knows that I'm you, and still likes me. He's…he's…./

//Is this where it gets to the shallow, "He's sexy and gorgeous and I want him" part?//

/Ummm…./

//I thought you were straight.//

/Yes, well…You're okay with this?/

//It's your…well, it *is* technically our body, but it's your life. And he *does* love you.//

/I freaked out when I first realized that./

//I wouldn't have expected any less from you.//

/Is that an insult?/

::He's doing it deliberately. Soon he'll be cuddling up to you and looking at you with adoring eyes and saying that he loves you and wants you to take him right here on the floor of this cabin and LET ME OUT DAMMIT SO I CAN KILL HIM!::

:NO! He's not interested in me that way.:

//I'm not sure I'm totally happy with this, but if you're going to go after Satoshi, now is a good time.//

/Hm?/

//Well, you have the perfect excuse to cuddle up to him, hold him….Kissing would probably end up with me and a very angry Satoshi, but you can get *close* as long as you're careful.//

/That's an idea…./

Daisuke leaned against Satoshi. "I'm still a little cold…."

:….:

::See! He's planned this entire trip around getting you to this cabin and he *knew* that there would only be one blanket and that he could just snuggle up to you like the little slut that he is.::

:I don't think he could have planned the storm.:

::Prove that he didn't.::

Satoshi wrapped his arms around Daisuke, who sighed and settled against Satoshi's chest. Daisuke rested his head on Satoshi's shoulder but resisted the urge to cuddle up to the other boy. He closed his eyes.

//You're scarily good at that….//

/It's because I look innocent./

//You *are* innocent.//

/Isn't that good then?/

"….What are you doing?"

Daisuke opened one eye and looked at Satoshi. "I'm tired after hiking all that way. Aren't you?"

"Well, yes, but….I know you're thinking to share body heat, for survival." Satoshi shook his head.

:I *never* sound this confused! I feel so stupid right now….:

::He's playing with you.::

:Shut up!:

/Should I…/

//It's a good time, yes.//

Daisuke leaned in and up, then gently brushed his lips over Satoshi's. Satoshi froze.

:….:

::I told you so.::

/Is he okay?/

//I think he's in shock….//

/Why didn't we…I change?/

//Just lucky, I guess…//

:….:

Satoshi pushed Daisuke away and stared at him. "Why did you do that?"

Daisuke blushed and looked away. "Because….I like you." Daisuke looked back at Satoshi. "Don't ask about Riku. It's….strange and complicated and I don't understand *why* we didn't work, but we didn't."

Satoshi leaned close to Daisuke. "And you….like me."

"Yes. I like you. Hm?"

//I SAID to give him the Kage no Kagi. Now.//

Satoshi watched silently as Daisuke fumbled in his pockets and brought out the Key of Shadow(s)^. Daisuke handed it to Satoshi, who nearly dropped it in shock.

//It *should* keep him from changing. Tell him that.//

/You knew?/

//I've stolen the thing a hundred times. Always so that we could talk to them, without worrying about the psycho inside.//

Daisuke sighed. "Dark says that if you keep that on you, it won't let you transform into Krad."

**Author's note: Yes, how freaking convenient. It screams plot device, and yet, I can't really bring myself to care when I have the image of Satoshi and Daisuke cuddling. Go figure.**

Satoshi blinked. "How did he know…."

"He's stolen it before."

"So," said Satoshi, "you like me."

"Yes."

"How *much* do you like me?" Satoshi stroked Daisuke's cheek and leaned in until he was almost nose to nose with the Daisuke.

//I'd say enough so that he'd see a *lot* of me if you use *that* method of staying warm.//

"/Dark!/" Daisuke blushed a deep crimson.

Satoshi's mouth quirked. "What did he say?"

"That….that I like you enough that you'd see a *lot* of him if we use….*that* method of staying warm." Daisuke swallowed hard.

"It's probably not a good idea anyway, if I need to keep the key on me." Satoshi sighed.

Daisuke snuggled up to Satoshi and tipped his head so that his lips brushed Satoshi's as he spoke. "But we can still share body heat…."

"Yes…"

Satoshi held Daisuke close and the two eventually fell asleep in front of the crackling fire.

Fin.

^ I *think* that's a good translation. I really only know a few words in Japanese. "Key" and "Shadow" are two of them.

Dark: You know that Krad will kill you for this.
Crysi: He can try. I'm a fanfic writer and therefore invincible. Plus I let him use my shackles to chain Satoshi to the wall, so he doesn't hate me as much as he might.
Krad: Omae o korosu
Heero: Don't steal my catch phrase.
Crysi: ^_^;;;;
